Fall School 2020 Programs

August 30 – October 10

ALL PROGRAMS ARE HELD AT Fairview West Arena for September & the iPlex in October.

Sanctioned by Skate Canada

Coached by SCSC Professional Skate Canada Coaches

Payment method is Credit Card-Online

  • All program fees do not include the $43.65 Skate Canada membership fee (skater insurance)
  • No refunds will be issued after September 13th, 2020 Refunds apply to only the program fee (not the Skate Canada membership).

Families registering with Kidsport or Jump Start funding must email swiftcurrentskateclub@gmail.com with the following information BEFORE registering: 

  • Parent's Name
  • Skater's Name
  • Program Name (ie. First Blades, Canskate, Rising STARS, STARSkate, Power Skating)

 

PRE-CANSKATE- Not currently available- watch for Winter information

Pre-Canskate is a program for first time skaters (must be 3 years of age by August 31, 2017) with little or no skating experience. The program uses circuits and games in a group environment to introduce skaters to the basic skating skills. Creating a fun and positive experience for your skater is key. Preschool children should be enrolled in this program.

CANSKATE- Not currently available- watch for Winter information

CanSkate is THE learn-to-skate program for skaters of all ages (must be 4 years of age by August 31, 2019). CanSkate offers basic skating instruction taught in a group format.  Circuits are used throughout the program to introduce basic skating skills to skaters which focus on skill progression and repetition.  The program focuses on three fundamentals of skating – Balance, Control and Agility.  The Fastrack and Fun Zone are highlights of the program. Previous skating experience is recommended.

 

RISING STARS

Rising STARS is for skaters working on Stages 4-6 in the CanSkate program.  This program is for those skaters that are interested in pursuing Figure Skating as skaters are required to wear figure skates.  Circuits are used to introduce basic skating skills to skaters which focus on skill progression and repetition.  The purpose of this program is to introduce Figure Skating skills to your skater.

Thursdays & Saturdays

STARSKATE (formerly Senior)

The STARSkate program offers opportunities for skaters working toward Preliminary to Gold levels.  Figure skating skills in the following areas are developed:  stroking, skills, ice dance, free skate and interpretive.

STARSkate - $18/ session  Sessions are 60 minutes, and sold in blocks.  Cost per block depends on total sessions

Sessions Available in Block- Sundays, Monday’s, Tuesday’s, Saturday’s 

Stroking Sessions are 15 minutes each, and sold in blocks as follows.......

Sunday block- stroking 1- 2 sessions- $12.

Mondays- stroking 2-  4 sessions- $24

 

POWER SKATING

 

CanPowerSkate is designed to enhance a hockey players skating technique and ability.  The SCSC power skating programs will focus on proper skating technique to help increase your skater's balance, power, speed, agility and efficiency! Puck and stick handling will be used periodically throughout the sessions.  These power skating programs are NOT learn-to-skate programs.  Please register your skater in the sessions you feel would be most appropriate.  This session requires full hockey equipment.

POWER A - 2nd & 3rd yr Initiation and 1st yr Novice- $240

Skaters should be able to skate forward the length of the ice with a push/glide concept and get up on their own.  Skaters not able to perform these basic skating skills should register in the SCSC CanSkate program. Focus in Power A will be on teaching proper posture and balance, forward stopping and forward and backward stride technique.  Skaters will be grouped according to skill level within the sessions.  Drills worked on throughout the sessions will be adapted to the appropriate skill level of the skaters. We will keep the FUN in these fundamentals!

Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays

12 Sessions - 45 minutes each

POWER B – 2nd yr Novice and Atom a $240

Focus in Power B will be on re-enforcing proper posture and balance, forward stopping and forward and backward stride technique.  Skaters will be introduced to skills such as forward and backward crossovers, fast V starts, crossover starts, quick back starts, backward V stops and tight turns.  Skaters will be grouped according to skill level within the sessions.  Drills worked on throughout the sessions will be adapted to the appropriate skill level of the skaters. We will keep the FUN in these fundamentals! 

Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays

12 Sessions - 45 minutes each

POWER C – Pee-wee - $240

Focus in Power C will be on re-enforcing proper forward and backward crossover technique, fast V starts, crossover starts, quick back starts, backward V stop and tight turns.  Skaters will be introduced to skills such as reverse turns, forward 360 spins, forward and backward lateral movement. Skaters will be grouped according to skill level within the sessions.  Pucks will be introduced and drills will incorporate skill development with stick handling. Drills worked on throughout the sessions will be adapted to the appropriate skill level of the skaters. We will keep the FUN in these fundamentals!
